Members, partners and friends of the European University Sports Association (EUSA) arrived to Spain for the EUSA General Assembly and accompanying events, held in Madrid, Spain between April 12 and 14, 2018.



During the first day, EUSA Seminar was organized, providing an overview of university sport events in 2017, offering participants progress reports for the upcoming European Universities Games in 2018 and 2020 and giving them a chance to hear the candidates for the sixth and seventh edition of the Games in 2022 and 2024.



EUSA Secretary General Mr Matjaz Pecovnik introduced the agenda and topics to be covered during the first day. He thanked the Spanish University Sport Committee and Camilo Jose Cela University for hosting and organizing this year’s assembly.



Afterwards, EUSA President Mr Adam Roczek welcomed the participants and thanked everyone for attending. He shared his enthusiasm about the further development of university sport.



EUSA Sports Manager Mr Besim Aliti shared the statistics from last year’s European Universities Championships and stated that it was the best year for student sport so far regarding the number of teams and participants. He also stressed some important changes that lead to better visibility and management of EUSA Championships and Games, before inviting everyone to participate in the next EUSA events.



The participants then had the chance to hear progress report of the European Universities Games Coimbra 2018. Mr Daniel Monteiro, the President of FADU Portugal and Mr Mario Santos, Secretary General of EUG2018, assured that the organization is going in the right direction and that all participants will have an amazing time in Portugal.



Two years after the Games in Portugal, Belgrade will be the host of the fifth edition of the European Universities Games in 2020. President of the Serbian University Sports Association, Mr Sinisa Jasnic presented an update on the European Universities Games and announced the Organizing Committee members.



The participants also had the chance to hear the presentations of candidate cities for the European Universities Games in 2022 and 2024. The Polish delegation from Lodz demonstrated their capacity and a strong desire to host the biggest university sport event in Europe in 2022.



Hungarian delegation presented the Debrecen-Miskolc bid for the 2024 Games and explained the significance of the project for the whole region of Eastern Hungary and showed that the two cities and their universities have great cooperation.

After the presentations, the bidding delegations had closed sessions with the EUSA Executive Committee who evaluated the bids. The final decision will be made tomorrow, during the EUSA General Assembly.
